Newsletter 36    July 18th ‘08
Dear Parents/Carers,
National Tests
In the final newsletter of this school year, I am delighted to announce how well our Y6 children have done in their SATs this term, and congratulate them and their teachers and teaching assistants. Everyone in the school has worked hard to give our Y6 leavers the best possible start to secondary school.
The test results are as follows:

Every child achieved at least Level 4 in English and Science, and 92% achieved this level in Maths.
We were particularly pleased with the number of children who achieved Level 5.

Teacher Assessment results are slightly different as they take into account a wider range of evidence, for example in English, Speaking and Listening is included and is teacher assessed.

Goodbye
Finally, thank you for the many kind messages, cards and gifts given to me over the last few days. It has been a privilege to work as head of Meldreth Primary School for the past four years and to be part of such a happy and supportive school community. I shall greatly miss the people who have made my time at the school so special, particularly the children and my team of colleagues who have been such a pleasure to work with.
I hope to be moving to Oxford during the course of the summer and look forward to visiting Meldreth school in the future.
With all good wishes to you and your families for a relaxing and enjoyable summer break.

Yours sincerely,
Janet Rayment

 Dear Parents/Carers,
Sports Day
We had a wonderful day yesterday with lovely bright, breezy weather, ideal for athletics. All the children took part and (almost) all really enjoyed all the different sporting challenges. Mrs Evans once again, demonstrated her amazing organisational skills and we had much appreciated family support for both the Infants and Juniors.
After totalling all the marks the winning teams were Japan for the Infants and Portugal for the Juniors. Well done to everyone for such a happy and memorable occasion.

Reports
Thank you for the reply slips returned already. If you have not done so, could you please make sure that the slip is returned to school next week.

Cocktail and Kebab Sticks
Midday supervisors have expressed concern about these being included in packed lunches. As any sharp sticks could pose a safety risk we would ask that these are not included in children’s lunches.

End of Term Disco
Friday 18th July.
Infants:   6.00 – 7.15pm
Juniors:   7.30 – 9.00pm
£2.00 including a drink

Drama Club has finished now until next term

Hoodwinked

We are looking forward to the end of year production on Tuesday 15th and Wednesday 16th July, at 7.00pm. Three tickets available per family, with any additional tickets going to Y6 in the first instance.

Younger siblings are encouraged to attend the afternoon performance on Tuesday. Please note that the time for this performance has been changed to 1.30pm
Tickets available from the school office.

Book Amnesty
Every year, the school loses a considerable number of books as a result of ‘home reading’ books failing to return or getting mixed up with children’s own books at home. Can you and your children have a good root around for any books with the school stamp, the SLS (schools’ library service) stamp or teacher’s own names written inside. We would also be glad to adopt any good quality children’s books that you are planning to recycle or no longer want, to help replenish class and library stocks!

Roots Nursery School
There have already been some generous donations of uniform for the Roots Nursery School in The Gambia. If you have any more to donate please give items to Laura Elvin before the end of term. As well as the green gingham dresses and grey shorts originally requested, we have now heard that the school also needs grey trousers and green or white polo shirts (without logos), so please dig out any of these that your children have outgrown.

 National Test Results

My preliminary analysis of our KS2 results indicates that our Y6 children have attained very well indeed. These results are due to be confirmed later next week and I hope to send them out in the final newsletter of the term.

Y2 children have also attained very encouraging levels of attainment.

These results will give the children a good start as they enter KS2 in the autumn. Congratulations to them and to all the staff who have taught them whilst at Meldreth.

Yours sincerely,
